What is the Oktoberfest Event in Gatlinburg?
From September 26 through November 2, Ober Gatlinburg will be celebrating the fall season with German foods, drinks, dancing and more! This year marks the 5th annual Oktoberfest event in Gatlinburg, and visitors keep returning year after year for fun in the Smokies.
With everything from outdoor entertainment, outdoor games and authentic German foods, you’re sure to have a great time. Visitors of all ages are welcome; the event is great for young and old!

What to Expect at the 2014 Oktoberfest Event in Gatlinburg
Whether you are looking for tasty, authentic German foods or you want to play some outdoor games and do a little dancing, there’s something for everyone.
Of course, most people visit the festival for the delicious food options. Some of the most popular are;
- Schnitzel
- German Bratwurst
- Sauerkraut
- German Potato Salad
- Pretzels
- Shwarzwalder Kirschtorte dessert
All of these items are available at a very reasonable cost. After enjoying a meal or a light snack, take a walk through the Bier Garden (open Thursday through Sunday). If the Bier Garden is closed, there’s always a selection of Oktoberfest ales and German-style wines available throughout the festival.
You can even see a show while you’re at the festival! Showtimes vary, depending on the day of the week. here’s the showtime schedule for this year:
- Monday through Thursday: 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
- Friday through Sunday: 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The shows are a great way to spend a little time with your family and friends, enjoying German culture.
How to Get to the 2014 Oktoberfest Event
To visit the 2014 Oktoberfest event in Gatlinburg, you can drive to the top of Ober Gatlinburg or catch a ride on the Aerial Tramway. The Aerial Tramway is the most popular way to get to Ober Gatlinburg because of the beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains. During Oktoberfest, the fall colors will making their way throughout the mountains, so when you ride on the Aerial Tramway, you can see all of the colors and take some of the most beautiful pictures from above the mountaintops.

The History of Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest originated in Germany in the early 1800s. Still today, the people celebrate Oktoberfest each year. Originally, the festival was a celebration of the wedding of the Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Bavaria. The wedding occurred in October, and the celebration followed…and then continued every year!
