There’s no better way to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park than with a large group of friends and family! So we think it’s a great idea for you to spend a few days with them in the Smokies this year. There’s so much to do in the national park and surrounding areas that you won’t run out of things to do with everyone. Plus, there’s a little something for everyone, so you won’t have to worry about keeping everyone busy. Here’s a few of the best things to do when you stay in large group cabins in the Smoky Mountains:
1. Explore Sugarlands Visitor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Everyone who visits falls in love with the Great Smoky Mountains. Of course, it’s even more enjoyable if you learn a little bit about the area before you start your adventure into the mountains.
When you enter Sugarlands Visitor Center, you will find that there is a retail area to your right, stocked with dozens of items related to the national park. With everything from books, postcards and magnets to preserves and homemade honey, you can take a little bit of the Smoky Mountains home with you.
Then, to your left, you will notice there is a desk operated by park rangers who are available to answer any of your questions about the park. Diagonally behind them, you’ll see a museum area filled with tidbits of information about the Smokies as well as a 30 minute video presentation about the park.
When you are traveling with a large group, Sugarlands is a great place to stop because there is plenty of space outside for the group to roam, and it’s a perfect place for anyone to pick up national park souvenirs for friends and family who couldn’t make the trip.

2. Hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Of course, after visiting Sugarlands, you should go on a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Right from the visitor center, there are walking trails and short hikes that are perfect for large groups because they do not require any strenuous hiking skills. For the most part, these are nature trails that take you through a small area in the mountains.

Things to Do in Large Group Cabins in the Smoky Mountains
You can impress any kids in your family when you set up a movie night during your vacation. Go ahead and pack up some popcorn, snacks and a favorite movie or two, then when you arrive at the cabin, you can get everyone wrapped up in blankets in their pajamas to watch a movie. If you stay in cabin with a home theater, kids will think this is especially cool!
4. Play Games in the Cabin’s Game Room
If you are staying in a cabin with a game room, you can spend some time together playing games in the cabin and challenging each other throughout your vacation. You can even pack up a board game or two, as well as a deck or cards, and play family games that way.
5. Relax in the Hot Tub
Of course, most of our cabins come with a hot tub. Hot tubs are especially popular in the winter and are amazing for relaxing and enjoying the Smoky Mountain scenery.
6. Cook a Family Meal
All of our cabins come equipped with full kitchens, with dishes and utensils. Many families and friends like to gather in the kitchen and make a homemade meal or two during their vacation. This saves money from having to go out to dinner and also gets everyone together to laugh and have a good time. After dinner, head outside to roast marshmallows and sit by a fire for the evening. Remember to bundle up in the winter because the weather tends to get rather cold.
