Smoky Mountain RoadKnown as America’s favorite drive, the Blueridge Parkway winds beautifully for 469 miles through North Carolina and Virginia amid mountains, lush forests and charming villages. Giving those that are driving the Blueridge Parkway spectacular views of Appalachian and Cherokee heritage, the road also offers up breathtaking displays of fiery foliage in the fall, a waterfall, historic homesteads and some of the oldest mountains in the world.

The parkway winds right by The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The Great Smoky Mountains actually get their name from the fog that stays settled around the mountains giving the appearance of smoke. This smoky fog is most noticed after rainfall and in the early mornings. Those driving the Blueridge Parkway should take a leisurely stop in The Great Smokies. Many lovely cabin rentals are nestled about the mountains near Gatlinburg where you can take advantage of the awe-inspiring views.

There is much to see and do while visiting Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Many quaint shops line the downtown area showcasing their wares ranging from the likes of Indian pottery to homemade fudge and other candies. Dining in Gatlinburg serves up many options, such as the iconic Hard Rock Cafe and the Cherokee Grill and Steakhouse. Hiking, horseback riding and ziplining are available for those wanting to enjoy the Great Outdoors, and ice skating, an aquarium and Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum will keep you entertained if the weather is not cooperating.

Your trip spent driving the Blueridge Parkway, with all of its picturesque enjoyment and soaking in large amounts of Southern folk charm and hospitality, will only be enhanced by a stop in The Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg. Make sure to take advantage of a mountain cabin rental opportunity to fully enjoy the ambiance and beauty The Great Smoky Mountains encompass.
