This interesting exhibit offers an opportunity to learn about the laws that shaped the Second Amendment and view some rare firearms on display. Here is everything you need to know about the Second Amendment Exhibit at the Alcatraz East Crime Museum:
What to Expect
The Second Amendment Exhibit at the Alcatraz East Crime Museum is a temporary exhibit that premiered on Oct. 5, 2018, and will be open to the public for a full year. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is part of the first 10 amendments known collectively as the Bill of Rights, and many laws and court cases have established legal frameworks for its interpretation and implementation. While visiting this exhibit, you can learn about some of the significant court cases that shaped how the Second Amendment fits into our laws of today. The exhibit also features nearly two dozen artifacts that show the progression of firearms from a 15th century matchlock carbine to the most popular firearms of today. This includes a Spencer carbine, a repeating long gun from the Civil War that was invented in 1860, and a rare Porter Turret rifle that is unique for its revolving chambers that point outward like spokes on a wheel.
