Group of men and women white water raftingWhen visiting the mountains, one of the most popular Gatlinburg attractions is rafting in the mountain’s main river. The Great Smoky Mountains are no exception, and enjoy an especially diverse range of experiences for any level of rafter – from beginner rafting to experienced rafters, from flat waters to wild white waters. Rafting in the Smokies is sure to bring families and friends closer together, as you experience the natural beauty of the most visited national park in the United States from the water.

One of the largest rivers in the park is the Pigeon Forge River, and there are many stretches of it to explore by raft. There are a few independent businesses that cater to visitors wishing to raft the Pigeon Forge River, and all of them offer a variety of experiences in which to do so. Two of the most popular choices of experience include either a thrilling whitewater experience or a more family-friendly river float. Both are fun and novel experiences that will create wonderful memories for all involved, as there is truly nothing as splendid as rafting through a mountain river!

Whitewater experiences will be sure to include several waterfalls, ranging from Class III to Class V. An experienced river and rafting guide ensures that everyone participating is well-versed in safety as well as basic paddling techniques. The guide also ensures that the rapids and waterfalls are approached and completed in safety, although there is no guarantee of not getting wet – either by splashing or by getting bumped off the rubber raft! However, life vests are always required on the river, and there is no real danger as long as those vests are on.

Family floats follow stretches of the Pigeon Forge River that are slightly less white water and a little more flatwater – but just as scenic and fun. From the water, you can be sure to spot a variety of animals – many birds such as kingfishers live around the water’s edge so be sure to keep your eyes open. No matter which experience you choose, make sure that you experience rafting in the Smokies!

After a day of whitewater rafting and experiencing one of the best Gatlinburg attractions, rest and relax at Amazing Views Cabin Rentals. For a quiet evening, you can sit outside and enjoy the scenic mountain views and sounds of the Smokies!
