Woman shopping at the supermarketAll of the little costs can add up when you’re planning a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. After you’ve scoured the shelves at a local Wal Mart or grocery store, you’ve probably wound up with at least $100 worth of ‘little things’ you need for your trip. Take our advice and stop at a dollar store for these few items before you make your way to the Smokies.

First Aid Kit

The dollar store usually sells mini first aid kits, perfect for storing in a purse or backpack. If you can’t find the first aid kit, don’t worry. The dollar store also sells all of the pieces of that first aid kit, so you can put one together easily.

Plastic Silverware

One of the most treasured items on a family vacation–plastic silverware! Why? When you’re on vacation, you probably don’t want to do dishes. Even though our cabins in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are equipped with everything you need for a home-cooked meal, the plastic silverware is easy to throw away and requires no cleanup!

Ziploc Bags

Ziploc bags are good for everything from storing leftover food items to small toys or souvenirs. The dollar stores sell name brand Ziploc bags, perfect for organizing your luggage before you head off on your Smoky Mountain vacation.

Hand Sanitizer

Kids tend to get sticky hands after eating a snack, so hand sanitizer is really helpful for clearing up those messes quickly.

Children’s Activities

It’s always great to surprise kids with fun activities throughout the vacation. When you’re looking to relax on the porch or soothe in a hot tub at one of the cabins in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, break out a new game or coloring book that the kids will enjoy!
