Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country are open for the season, and we couldn’t be more excited! Each year, the theme park and the water park get bigger and better, and 2017 is no exception. Visitors to Pigeon Forge this summer will have the chance to experience a number of new rides at the parks. To help you make the most of your vacation, Amazing Views Cabin Rentals has put together a guide to what’s new at Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country.
Drop Line: Thrilling Free-Fall Tower
Dollywood’s biggest addition for 2017 is the new Drop Line ride. Located across from Lumber Jack’s Pizza in the Timber Canyon section of the theme park, this 230-foot tall free-fall tower is guaranteed to have you screaming – in the best way possible!
Passengers on this thrilling ride sit in a circular 24-seat gondola that slowly rotates as it moves up the 20-story tower. You’ll enjoy incredible panoramic views of the theme park and the Great Smoky Mountains…for a little while. After you’ve taken in the scenic vistas from the top of the tower, your gondola will suddenly drop from the sky in a dramatic free fall that is sure to get your heart racing. Going from 230 feet in the air back to the ground in just a few seconds is incredibly exhilarating.
The entire ride lasts about 2 minutes, and the free fall reaches a maximum speed of around 77 miles-per-hour. Drop Line is the first attraction of its kind at Dollywood, and the ride is generating a lot of positive buzz from folks who have already visited the theme park this year. Guests must be at least 48” to ride Drop Line.
Whistle Punk Chaser: Fun Junior Coaster
While Drop Line is already open for the season, Whistle Punk Chaser will be debuting at Dollywood later this summer. This junior roller coaster is named after a type of lumberjack called a “whistle punk” who operated a steam whistle during the logging process.
Situated next to Drop Line, Whistle Punk Chaser is aimed at young visitors who aren’t old enough to ride the park’s Thunderhead wooden coaster. Open to guests who are at least 36” tall, this junior coaster is full of fun twists and turns. Passengers who are under 42” tall must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old in order to ride Whistle Punk Chaser.
TailSpin Racer: Wet and Wild Adventure
Now that you know what’s new at Dollywood for 2017, let’s take a look at Splash Country’s latest attraction: TailSpin Racer. This one-of-a-kind water ride is five stories tall and features six slides, so you can race your whole family to the finish line! Guests ride the slides by lying flat on their bellies on top of a blue racing mat.
What makes TailSpin Racer so unique is that the ride features both enclosed tubes and open air slides. The TailSpin Racer’s slides are longer than a football field! Guests must be at least 42” tall to ride this awesome attraction.
