It is no secret that most guests come to the Smoky Mountains to view the spectacular scenery throughout the year. The winter season is a particularly great time to visit as the mountains take on a unique appearance with a beautiful layer of snow. While you can enjoy the scenery from virtually anywhere in Gatlinburg, the best way to view the winter landscape is by getting up high! Here are the best attractions in Gatlinburg TN where you can enjoy the scenery from a bird’s eye view:

1. Gatlinburg Space Needle

When arriving into downtown Gatlinburg, you can’t miss the iconic Gatlinburg Space Needle! This 407 foot tall observation tower offers a stunning panoramic view of Gatlinburg and the surrounding Smoky Mountains. When arriving to the Space Needle, take one of the comfortable glass elevators to the observation deck where you can take advantage of free viewfinders. This is the best possible location to view Mount LeConte, the tallest mountain in the eastern United States! The observation deck also contains a variety of Higher Learning exhibits where you learn facts and history about Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. At the base of the tower, you can continue the fun at Arcadia which is the largest family fun arcade in town!

Beautiful view of the city and the mountains from the Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway.2. Aerial Tramway to Ober Gatlinburg

For another one of the fantastic attractions in Gatlinburg TN where you can see the winter scenery from up above, visit the Aerial Tramway! This is one of the largest aerial tramways in the country and it departs regularly from downtown Gatlinburg to the Ober Gatlinburg amusement park and ski area. The breathtaking ride travels for 2.1 miles and features two 120 passenger counter balanced cars. The Aerial Tram station is located at Parkway and LeConte Street in downtown Gatlinburg and is just minutes from the cabins at Amazing Views Cabin Rentals! Once at the top of the mountain, simply travel back down or take advantage of the skiing and snow tubing runs at Ober Gatlinburg!

3. Chondola at Anakeesta

Take a scenic ride up 600 feet to the top of Anakeesta Mountain on the Chondola at Anakeesta! The unusual name comes from the combination of a chairlift and gondola, which both run on this unique fixed grip transportation system. You can choose to ride in an open air 4 person chair with a safety bar or an enclosed gondola that has seating for 6 people. The Anakeesta Chondola is the first of its kind to be build in the United States and takes you to the summit of the mountain as you soar above downtown Gatlinburg. Once at the top you will enter the magical Firefly Village where you can enjoy numerous overlooks and 360 degree views of the surrounding mountain range. Firefly Village also contains tree-house themed shopping and tasty dining opportunities, including the Anakeesta Summit Smokehouse.
